Summer Dance Intensive

Better Technique, Better Condition, Better Dance!
10:00—10:45 a.m. Fit Ball/Stretch / Technique
Fit ball technique and stretch class focuses on alignment, placement, core stability and creating muscle memory to help you become a better dancer. You will need a 10” mini yoga pilates ball, exercise ball (suitable for your height), and yoga mat. Intructor: Cynthia Gamez, Certified PBT Instructor and Associate Member Cecchetti Council of America.
10:45—12:00 p.m. Ballet
Develop and maintain your strength, speed, and agility this summer. Inspiring combinations, solid technique to help you become a better dancer on and off stage! Learn new sequences and variations with a nationally recognized ballet instructor. Instructor: Maestro Oscar Antunez, Choreographer, Dancer, Royal Danish Ballet.

12:45—2:00 p.m. Contemporary/Modern with Leanne Rinelli
This contemporary class explores the range of dynamics that are possible in dance from rolling and twisting on he floor to flying through the air. You will learn fun and challenging phrases and have the chance to express your personal uniqueness in improvisation. This class will make you a strong and versatile dancer! Instructor: Leanne Rinelli, Assistant Professor of Dance, UTEP and co-founder of Mountain Movement Dance Company.

Cynthia Gamez is a dance teacher and owns El paso Dance Works! She is specializes in Argentine Tango and Ballet. She has taught ballet for over 10 and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Theater Arts and Ballet Technique. She is an Associate Member of the Cecchetti Council of America and is also DVIDA certified in Argentine Tango and in American Smooth Ballroom Dance. She is a Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) Certified Instructor. She has competed in the 2016 and 2017 USA Tango Championships, was a semifinalist in the 2018 Southern California Argentine Tango Championship in the stage category, and is a community organizer for tango events in El Paso and is co-host of the Paso del Norte Tango Club Saturday Night Milonga, now in its 15th year. She has a passion for teaching adults and loves to share her knowledge of dance, ballet, and Argentine Tango with her students.
Oskar Antunez received his early training from Ingeborg Heuser and graduated from University of Texas at El Paso with a degree in ballet performance. Antunez toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe while performing with Royal Danish Ballet, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens and Harkness Ballet of New York. Antunez made his choreographic debut at the Royal Danish Ballet where his original works were received with great acclaim.
Equally accomplished in classical ballet, jazz, and musical theater, Antunez has staged numerous classical and contemporary works as assistant director and ballet master at Ballet El Paso, and as associate artistic director and resident choreographer at Montgomery Ballet. His works include productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Tango, Huapango, The Planets, Gatsby, Joey’s Jest, Carmen, Peter and the Wolf, Carnival of the Animals, Red, White & Blue and Alice in Wonderland.
Antunez has served as dance faculty at several colleges, and as a member of the Dance Advisory Panel on the Arts in Texas.
Leanne Rinelli is an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Texas at El Paso and the co-director of Mountain Movement Dance Company. Leanne received her B.A. in Dance from the University at Buffalo and her M.F.A. in Choreography and Performance from SUNY Brockport. She has danced with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company II (Dayton, OH), Janet Reed and Dancers (Buffalo, NY), the Bill Evans Dance Company (Rochester, NY), KDiehl Danceworks (Rochester, NY) and STEAMROLLER Dance Company (San Francisco). Leanne has presented her choreography internationally with Dance-Forms Productions in Guatemala, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Croatia, and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. She has a passion for nurturing dancers’ well-being, which led her to attain her C-RYT 200 Yoga Alliance certification.
